Introduction to Kudzu Root:

Morphology of the Kudzu Plant:
A vine that can grow up to 10 cm in length, the entire plant is covered with yellow-brown long, hard hairs. It has alternate, trifoliate leaves, with shield-shaped stipules. The central leaflets are rhombic-oval or broad-oval, while the lateral leaflets are oblique-elliptical, both surfaces covered with rough hairs, denser on the back. The stipules are shield-shaped, and the small stipules are needle-like. The inflorescence is a raceme, axillary, with dense flowers. The small bracts are ovate or lanceolate. The flower calyx is bell-shaped, with 5 lobes; the two upper lobes are fused, while the lower lobe is longer, and both the inner and outer surfaces are covered with yellowish soft hairs. The flower corolla is butterfly-shaped, blue-purple, about 1.5 cm long. The fruit is a linear pod, 5–10 cm long, flat, densely covered with yellow-brown long, hard hairs. The flowering period is from May to September, and the fruiting period is from August to October.

Distribution:
Kudzu is found in most regions of China, with its primary distribution in Liaoning, Hebei, Henan, Shandong, Anhui, Jiangsu, Zhejiang, Fujian, Taiwan, Guangdong, Guangxi, Jiangxi, Hunan, Hubei, Chongqing, Sichuan, Guizhou, Yunnan, Shanxi, Shaanxi, Gansu, and other areas. Internationally, it is found in China, Laos, Thailand, Myanmar, Bhutan, India, and the Philippines.

Active Ingredients:
Kudzu root contains various flavonoid compounds, with the main active ingredients being daidzein, daidzin, puerarin, and puerarin-7-xyloside. Puerarin is an extract of wild Kudzu, also known as puerarin flavonoid, with the molecular formula C21H20O9 and a molecular weight of 416.37. It appears as white needle-like crystals in methanol-acetic acid.
